Despite this year's Medway Open Studios being cancelled, the wonderful people who organise the event are continuing to celebrate Medway's creativity and have taken the festival online. Yey! Gelli printing is a mono-type printing technique that uses a flexible plate to create natural and graphic looking prints.

sun printing / cyanotypes

Tuesday 7th July
​From the allotment (weather permitting)
Sun prints, cyanotypes or blueprints are created placing natural elements on light sensitive paper and exposing it to the sun's rays. They say it's science but it feels like magic!

Wednesday 8th July

​Screen printing is a resist printmaking technique using stencils to create an image and then print it through a screen using a squeegee. It's difficult to explain but fascinating to watch.

Saturday 11th July

Hapazome prints are created by extracting dye from flowers and leaves with a hammer - it's a noisy technique so turn down the volume!

gelli printing - lithographs

Sunday 12th July
From my home studio
This printmaking technique works on the basis that oil and water don't mix. Black and white photos are transferred to the gelli plate and then printed onto colourful backgrounds for pop-art inspired prints.
