bespoke studio workshops

Book your own printmaking experience at my studio in Rochester, Kent - perfect for a celebration, creative catch-up with friends, something different to do with work colleagues, or a new activity for the family to try.

THE STUDIO

The studio itself has been lovingly restored and you'll notice that it has an informal feel - there's a comfy Ercol chair, mohair cushions and rugs with some vintage touches and modern twists thrown in. This sets the scene perfectly for the workshop; the aim is for you and your friends to feel relaxed and enjoy playing with print.

Bespoke workshops are held at Studio 7, The Halpern Conservancy Board Building on Rochester High Street (ME1 1PY). Home to Nucleus Arts and Café Nucleus, it's a beautiful, early 20th Century building with lots of original features. Studio 7 is located on the second floor and there are approximately 40 stairs up to the studio. Unfortunately there is no disabled access.

Select one of the following for your printmaking experience:

Linocut

The linocut workshop is suitable for beginners. You’ll learn transfer techniques, understand image reversal, get hands-on carving your tile and conclude by inking and hand-printing your linocut on a 19th century press. You’ll each leave with a set of six greetings cards and take your linocut tile with you to carry on printing at home. Over 18s only. Maximum 6 people.

SCREEN PRINTING

The screen printing workshop is suitable for beginners. You’ll learn how to transfer your design, cut and layer paper stencils, and build up a multicoloured print through a hands-on, step-by-step process. Using a professional screen and squeegee, you’ll explore colour, texture, and layering to create your own original design. You’ll each leave with a finished screen print on a canvas tote bag. Over 18s only. Maximum of four people.

Gelli printing

The Gelli printing workshop is suitable for beginners. You’ll experiment with colour palettes and monotype printmaking, exploring image transfer (a lithogrphy type technique), colour overlays and stencil techniques. Using natural materials and found textures you’ll create a wide variety of unique prints. As time allows, you’ll turn your favourite pieces into a concertina artist’s book and leave with a collection of prints to frame, collage or use in sketchbooks and journals. Over 18s only. Maximum of six people.
