Cyanotypes or sun prints are an early form of photography that use natural chemicals and the sun's UV light to produce beautiful blue prints. It's so simple to do that anyone can have a go, even children with a little bit of supervision.

How it works and what you get: When you arrive you'll be given everything you need to make your print including an envelope which contains your ready-to-use cyanotype paper, these are circular and measure approx 20cm / 8" in diameter. You'll also be given instructions on how to make your print and I'll be on hand to help you with any questions. You'll then go on a mini forage around the meadow to find natural elements such as leaves, flowers, feathers etc. to make your print. Using the equipment you've been given you'll arrange a design on top of the cyanotype paper and leave it in the sun. The sun's rays will only react to the parts of the paper that have not been covered over so when you wash out the chemicals the shape of the leaves, flowers, feathers etc. will remain like ghostly silhouttes.

How long does the event last? There are three seperate sessions throughout the afternoon, each lasting approximately an hour. When booking your ticket please select your chosen time slot.

What if it's overcast? We can still print. Hooray! The exposure time will be longer and your print will be a lighter blue but it's still possible.

What happens if it rains? Unfortunately if it rains on the day we won't be able to create cyanotypes but please come along to collect your ready-made paper and you can print at home when it's sunny again! I'll send you a tutorial to the email address that you register with and you can print in your own time.

What age range is this activity suitable for? It's suitable for children from 5 years+ and adults of all ages.

Where will I find you on Watts Meadow? You'll find me on the grassed area of Watts Meadow, through the gate that's located at the end of Lilliymonte Drive. If you're using What3Words then the co-ordinates are

What do I need to bring with me? All equipment and materials are provided but you may wish to bring refreshments with you. Also please wear sensible footwear, as the ground is uneven in places, and comfortable clothing. If it is hot don't forget your sun hat and sunscreen.

Are there any toilets? Please note there are no public toilets on Watts Meadow. The nearest public toilets are located on Rocheter High Street opposite the Corn Exchange.

Where can I park? Please don't park in Lillymonte Drive as this is for residents only. There is a free car park on Priestfields which is directly opposite to Lillymonte Drive or you can park on Priestfields.
