OK, so a slight disclaimer before we go any further, the selected beers, ciders and real ales for this workshop AREN’T pint-sized. The bottles are around 440ml but Print & a Pint scans so much better than Print & a 440ml Bottle of Beer, don’t you think? There are also non-alcoholic options.

Now that’s sorted let’s get on with telling you about the workshop.

Get ready for an afternoon of creative carving whilst kicking back with a cold one.

Once inside the Halpern Conservatory Building (AKA Café Nucleus), make your way up the grand stone staircase. Look up to the atrium and take in the architecture. Allow your eye to follow the hand-moulded swallows that fly around the deep turquoise walls. Keep climbing until you find the beautifully restored Studio 7. This once-dark room has been completely opened up and boasts huge leaded windows, an original fireplace, and beautiful honey-colored parquet flooring.

Come on in and take a seat. It's time for the workshop to begin.

You'll notice that the studio has an informal feel, which sets the scene perfectly for this workshop where we’ll be focusing on the classic linocut technique. Learn transfer methods, master image reversal, and get hands-on carving your design using specialist tools.

By this point, you might be feeling a bit thirsty, so it’s time for a glass of cider, real ale, Kentish beer or soft drink from the extensive Café Nucleus Tipples menu.

Once revived, it’s time to print and see your art come to life as you ink up your linocut and print onto paper using a cast-iron 19th-century press.

Leave with your masterpieces in hand, along with your linocut tile, equipped with the skills and know-how to continue your printmaking journey at home.

Notes about the workshop: All materials, printing equipment, a bottle of beer, ale, cider or soft drink and bar snacks are provided. Advertised drinks are subject to availability. The easy-carve postcard-sized linocut tiles (approximately 15cm x 10cm) make this workshop ideal for beginners or those seeking a refresher. Once cleaned and dried, your linocut tile can be taken home and used to print again and again. No previous printing experience necessary. Over 18s only.

What you need to bring with you: To save time at the start of the workshop, please bring a print-out or drawing of your design. If you’re stuck for ideas, searching for Linocut Print on Google or Pinterest will give you lots of options. Please make sure that your design is no bigger than 10cm x 15cm / 4” x 6”.
