Relax into an afternoon of discovery, creativity and self-care, whilst enjoying a glass of fizz.

Make your way up the grand stone staircase of the Halpern Conservatory Building (AKA Café Nucleus), look up to the atrium and take in the architecture. Allow your eye to follow the hand moulded swallows that fly around the deep turquoise walls. Carry on up and you'll find the beautifully restored Studio 7. This once dark room has been completely opened up and boasts huge leaded windows, an original fireplace and beautiful honey-coloured parquet flooring.

Come on in and take a seat. It's time for the workshop to begin.

You'll notice that the studio has an informal feel - there's a comfy Ercol chair, mohair cushions and rugs with some vintage touches and modern twists thrown in. 

This sets the scene perfectly for the workshop; we want you to feel relaxed and enjoy playing with print. The afternoon's featured printmaking technique is linocut. You'll learn transfer techniques, understand image reversal and get hands-on carving your tile with specialist tools.

At this point you might find yourself getting a little thirsty, so you’re invited to join us for a glass of Prosecco and nibbles.

After a well deserved break comes the exciting bit – the moment to see the results of your hard work. You’ll ink-up and bring your linocut to life by using a 19th Century Press to print a series of linocut prints onto paper and greetings cards.

With your masterpieces and lino tile in hand we’ll wave you off with the skills and knowledge to carry on printmaking at home.

Notes about the workshop: All materials, printing equipment, a glass of Prosecco and nibbles are provided. The easy-carve postcard-sized linocut tiles (approximately 15cm x 10cm) make this workshop ideal for beginners or those seeking a refresher. Once cleaned and dried, your linocut tile can be taken home and used to print again and again. 

No previous printing experience necessary.

What you need to bring with you: To save time at the start of the workshop, I ask that you bring a print-out or drawing of your design. If you’re stuck for ideas then searching for Linocut Print on Google or Pinterest will give you lots of options. Please make sure that your design is no bigger than 10cm x 15cm / 4” x 6”
