About the Event
Cyanotypes or sun prints are an early form of photography that use natural chemicals and the sun's UV light to produce beautiful blue prints. It's so simple to do that anyone can have a go, even children with a little bit of supervision. Print in your garden or local park with friends and family, adhering to current social distancing, of course.
How it works and what you get: You'll be sent 5 x pieces of ready-to-use cyanotype paper. These are circular (carrying on the sun theme) and measure approx 20cm / 8" in diameter. Store the envelope in a dry, cool, dark place and do not open it until you're ready to print. Before printing make sure you have to hand all the equipment listed below. Lay leaves, flowers, feathers etc. on top of the paper, hold them down with a plastic sheet and leave it in the sun. The sun's rays will only react to the parts of the paper that have not been covered over so when you wash out the chemicals the shape of the leaves, flowers, feathers etc. will remain.
These also make great presents to send to friends and family, to let them know you’re thinking of them, just complete their address on the booking form.
Sales end a week before the workshop, at which point the cyantopes will be sent out to you. UK only FREE postage and packaging. If you would like a quote on postage outside of the UK please contact me https://www.iprintedthat.com/contact
You have the option to join the Facebook Live broadcast at 11am, the Instagram Live broadcast at 12pm or follow along in your own time with a video recording sent to you within 3 hours of the workshop ending. Broadcasts will last between 15 - 30 minutes.
What you'll need to get ready for the workshop:
- A clip frame no smaller than A4 size (for health and safety reasons we suggest plastic rather than glass) If you don't have a clip frame then you can use a piece of thick cardboard or MDF and an sheet or Perspex or similar, both need to be A4 size or larger.
- If you're not using a clip frame then 4 x pegs or 4 x bull dog clips
- A selection of leaves, flowers, feathers, grasses that you'll use to make your design
- Scissors (optional)
- A bucket of cold tap water or access to a tap
What if it's overcast? You can still print. Hooray! The exposure time will be longer and your print will be a lighter blue but it's still possible.
What happens if it rains? Unfortunately if it rains on the day you won't be able to create your sun prints but as long as you keep them in a cool dark place then you can use them when it's sunny again! The recording will be sent to you within 3 hours of the Live workshops ending.
